BIO-DEAD – A Terrifying Return to the Wasteland – Based on the Cult Horror/Sci-Fi Movie
August 13, 2025 – Los Angeles, CA – Fans of post-apocalyptic horror rejoice! Sixteen years after the release of the 2009 cult favorite BIO-DEAD, director Stephen J. Hadden is proud to announce the launch of the official novelization, which greatly expands the terrifying dystopian universe.
BIO-DEAD, the novel, arrives August 26 in hardcover, paperback and e-book, with an audiobook edition to follow later this year. Based on the screenplays for the original film and an unmade prequel, this chilling reimagining brings deeper psychological horror, expanded characters, and a bleak, unflinching vision of a frightful future.
Set in the decaying remains of Southern California after a deadly bioterrorist attack has killed millions, BIO-DEAD follows a hazmat team dispatched into the contaminated wasteland. What begins as a routine search and rescue mission soon spirals into terror, paranoia and death.
“Fans of the movie will find familiar horrors – and many new nightmares – in this new adaptation,” says BIO-DEAD author Stephen J. Hadden. “Years ago, we were forced to make numerous compromises on the original movie due to budgetary limitations, so I am grateful for this opportunity to now finally tell the full story as I had originally envisioned.”
Timed with the 16th anniversary of the film’s release, the BIO-DEAD novel pays tribute to the original’s gritty aesthetic while carving out its own identity in the legacy of dystopian science fiction.
