Tubi Terror Volume 4 – Vampires Suck, 3 Vampire movies running on Tubi

This entry is part 4 of 7 in the series Tubi Terror

In the fourth issue of Tubi Terror, Malevolent Dark will expose you to the dark and bloody world of vampires! From the most majestic of castles we bring you three vampire movies running on Tubi. They’re sure to make your blood run so cold, reptiles will envy you. Are they the best films featuring the blood-sucking entities? Maybe not. But if you love them as much as I do (ignore what I said in the title), you might just find something worth being decapitated over.

Vampire Ecstasy (1974) a.k.a. The Devil’s Plaything

The start of this movie feels like a very weird porno. This movie loves it’s naked, dancing women. In fact, that’s what about 70 percent of the movie is.

The basic premise is that two girls and some “unexpected” guests stay at Castle Vaga, the two girls’ deceased Aunt’s estate. All while witches preform a ritual to bring back the ancient vampire baroness, Varga. That sounds cool, right? Well, as mentioned earlier, most of the movie is the lesbian witches fondling each other’s breast, playing with dildo candles, and having sex with one another. But to give the witches more credit, they do also bend people to their will, preform rituals, and successfully resurrect Varga.

The film showcases the witches much more than the sole vampire. That’s because she’s barely in it. She doesn’t appear until the last 10 minutes… honestly kind of a disappointment. They should’ve renamed this to “Naked Witch Ecstasy”.

I should also say that the acting in this movie is among the most stale on Tubi. There is not a single good performance in this movie. There’s also next to no memorable characters. Most of the witches (of which there are five) aren’t even named (nor do they even SPEAK).

This movies is a mind numbing bore. If you love nudity in your horror movies then… there are movies that are FAR more worth your time. Return of The Living Dead (1986), Chopping Mall, Re-Animator (1985) and The Slumber Party Massacre (1982) should scratch that itch. Honestly, only fans of ultimate boredom should watch this movie.

Vamp (1986)

Now here’s a movie that won’t bore you. This movie will, however, make you chuckle quite a few times. Vamp is a horror-comedy about two college boys, Keith and AJ, who go on a road trip to a strip club, The After Dark Club, to get a stripper for a fraternity party, the Dipsa Phi house. Not the strongest plot, but it gets our boys and their buddy for the week, Duncan, on the road.

This movie is so much fun. Keith and Aj are actually likeable characters for the most part. The other two main characters, Duncan and Allison aren’t bad, but they aren’t great either. However both do have some funny moments.

The vampires in this movie are probably what you’d expect to see out of basic vampires, and there aren’t much to most of them. Other than one, but telling you who it is would be a massive spoiler.

The practical effects in this movie are also really good and the whole movie looks good overall. This movie’s comedy is not side-splitting, but still effective and as mentioned earlier, made me chuckle more than once. The acting isn’t jaw droppingly good, but it’s far from bad.

Overall, this is a very solid, campy vampire movie. It has a reputation among horror fans as an underrated classic, and we agree with that notion. We recommend it if you’re looking for a good time with stripper vampires!

Let The Right One In (2008)

This movie does not feel like a traditional horror movie. In fact, this is both a horror movie and what some would call “a dark romance” film. Let The Right One In is a Swedish film that tells the story of a 12-year old boy, Oskar, who makes friends with Eli. HOWEVER, Eli is, you guessed it, a vampire. And like vampires do, Eli kills people to suck on their blood. So it’s, uhhh, not a great start to a romance.
This relationship between Oskar and Eli is both enjoyable and adorable. It’s easy to believe by the end that they care for each other, despite their obvious differences in species, morality and mortality. These two have less prejudiced eyes for one another. And that’s sweet! However, it is also entirely possible that Oskar is being groomed throughout the whole movie and that Eli is just manipulating him. Which interpretation is “correct?” Well that’s one of the best parts of this movie, YOU DECIDE!

The movie does leave a few things up to the imagination, but whether or not Eli truly cares for Oskar at all is on the top of the list. The reason you might be able to believe that Eli does is because of the excellent acting by Kåre Hedebrant (Oskar) and Lina Leandersson (Eli). They really sell the bond and connection these two have, which for a movie like this is VITAL. and they’re not the only ones. Per Ragnar (Håkan) and Ika Nord (Virginia) were also standouts as well.
I should also mention that this movie’s kills are pretty good. Especially with building suspense. It also presents us with some decent gore served with some really impressive cinematography as well.
Let The Right One In is the sweetest vampire movie I’ve ever seen, and for that, it comes highly recommended. HOWEVER there’s one more movie I should mention. Let Me In (2010) is the American remake of Let The Right One In. The two are equal in quality but both are different stories. I recommend you watch them both, but start with the original.
