Malevolent Dark Style Guide – Social Content Guidelines

Insightful and Interesting Content

The goal of Malevolent Dark is to provide insightful and meaningful content to our users. This means that we want to bring together a diverse mix of views and opinions covering a wide array of horror content.

  • Don’t write extremely lengthy plot synopsis. The goal should be to tell enough about the movie to support the rest of your narrative. This is not to say avoid plot synopsis, but that should only be a small part of the overall review.
  • Do reference other works and relationships when writing. One of the best aspects of the horror genre are that is is highly recursive with actors, directors and tropes. Reference these relationships and lead the reader through the horror landscape.
  • Do discuss movie making techniques, cinematography, special effects, sound design… etc.
  • Do talk about actors, producers and directors and their other roles in movies
  • Do link to content where applicable so that readers can walk the web of great content at malevolentdark.com and the greater web
  • Do think about the overall theme that you want to convey and support your argument

Socio-political Commentary

One of the great things about horror is that it confronts political and social issues. It is nearly impossible to create insightful and interesting content without acknowledging that fact. In light of that, there are a few guidelines that need to be discussed.

  • Malevolent Dark is NOT a political website. We do not promote a specific ideology, political party or social cause.
  • The being said, the writers of this site have an opinion and are free to express that opinion in a respectful manner.
  • Expressing ones opinion does not include denigrating people that do not share that opinion
  • Before expressing an opinion that will offend or piss anyone off, consider whether or not it is really important to your point.
  • Do be strong, opinionated and interesting.
  • Don’t be an asshole.
  • If it is on the edge, I’ll make a judgement call for the well-being of the platform. Try not to take it personal.
